John Deere 3511.04 – Steering System Control Unit (XSC): Sensor Supply 3 Voltage Low / 5-Volt Supply Voltage 1 Too Low

The control unit has detected that the 5-volt reference supply circuit has dropped below its normal operating specification (typically below 4.75 volts). This condition is generally caused by a short to ground in the wiring harness, a failed sensor on that circuit pulling the voltage down, or an internal hardware fault within the control unit itself.

   Inspect electrical connections: Visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors associated with the XSC 5-volt sensor supply circuit for chafing, damage, corrosion, or loose connections.

   Isolate sensors: Disconnect sensors sharing the 5-volt supply (such as steering wheel position, wheel angle, or brake pressure sensors) one at a time while monitoring voltage. If voltage returns to 5V, the disconnected sensor is internally shorted.

   Test module output: Disconnect the harness from the XSC module and measure voltage output directly at the module's pins for Sensor Supply 3. If it does not output 5 volts, the internal voltage regulator has failed.

   Power down

   Power down the machine and turn the key switch to the OFF position.

   Locate source

   Based on the diagnostic isolation test, locate the source of the voltage drop (shorted sensor, damaged wiring, or faulty XSC module).

   Replace sensor

   If a sensor is faulty: Remove the defective sensor (e.g., steering wheel position sensor) and install a new OEM replacement. Reconnect the wiring harness.

   Repair wiring

   If the wiring is damaged: Repair the shorted section of the wiring harness using approved electrical repair methods, or replace the affected harness section.

   Replace module

   If the XSC module is faulty: Disconnect the battery. Remove the connectors from the Steering System Control Unit. Unbolt and remove the module. Install the new module, reconnect the harnesses, and reconnect the battery.

   Calibrate

   Calibration: If the XSC module or a steering sensor was replaced, you must use John Deere Service ADVISOR to program the new module and perform necessary calibrations (such as the wheel angle sensor calibration).

   Verify repair

   Turn the key switch ON, clear the stored diagnostic trouble codes, and verify that XSC 003511.04 does not return. Test the steering system for proper operation.
