John Deere 3511.06 – CSC: CSC Sensor Supply Current High

Issue description

The 5-volt reference circuit supplying power to the sensors on this module is drawing more amperage than the system allows. This condition is almost always caused by a short to ground in the sensor wiring harness or an internally shorted sensor pulling excessive current.

Check the cause

  1. Verify the active fault code CSC 003511.06 in the CommandCenter display.

  2. Visually inspect the wiring harness connecting the CSC module to its 5V sensors (specifically the cab suspension position sensors). Look for chafing, pinched wires, or exposed copper that could be shorting to the tractor's chassis/ground.

  3. Perform a sensor isolation test: Disconnect the sensors on the CSC 5V reference circuit one at a time. If the fault code changes from 'Active' to 'Inactive' (or the current draw drops to normal on a multimeter) when a specific sensor is unplugged, that sensor is internally shorted.

  4. If all sensors are unplugged and the fault remains active, use a digital multimeter to test the 5V supply wire in the harness for continuity to ground, which will isolate a harness short.

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery

    This prevents electrical spikes during repair.

  2. Remove the faulty sensor's mounting hardware and disconnect the electrical connector

    Perform this if the diagnostic checks isolated a faulty sensor (such as the cab suspension position sensor).

  3. Install the new sensor

    Note: Cab suspension position sensors may require a ride-height calibration procedure via the CommandCenter display after installation.

  4. Repair or replace the affected harness section

    If the wiring harness was found to be shorted, locate the damaged section. Repair the wire using approved splicing techniques and sealed heat-shrink tubing, or replace the affected harness section entirely.

  5. Reconnect the battery and turn the key to the ON position

  6. Clear the stored fault codes

    Use the tractor's diagnostic interface to clear the codes.

  7. Test the cab suspension system

    Operate the machine to ensure proper ride height adjustment and verify that the fault code does not return.
