John Deere 3512.03 – XSC / ECU: Sensor Supply Voltage Out of Range High
Issue description
The controller detects that a 5-volt sensor supply circuit is experiencing a voltage above the normal specification (typically greater than 5.2V for more than 2 seconds). This usually means the 5-volt reference wire is shorted to a higher voltage source (like a 12V battery wire) or the controller has an internal power supply failure.

Check the cause
Identify the Module: Check the cab display to confirm if the code is logged as ECU 3512.03 or XSC 3512.03 to know which circuit to troubleshoot.
Check System Voltage: Verify the alternator is not overcharging the entire electrical system.
Sensor Isolation Test: Disconnect the sensors on the affected 5V circuit one by one. If the code changes from 3512.03 (High) to 3512.04 (Low), the sensor you just disconnected is internally shorted and feeding voltage back into the reference circuit.
Harness Voltage Test: With the sensors disconnected and the key ON (engine OFF), use a multimeter to measure the voltage at the 5V supply pin on the sensor connector. If it reads 12V or higher, the wiring harness is shorted to a power wire.
Repair steps
Consult the wiring diagram
Use the specific machine's schematic to identify all sensors powered by 'Sensor Supply 4' (if the code is logged by the ECU) or '5-Volt Supply 2' (if logged by the XSC).
Disconnect power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable before performing any harness inspections or repairs.
Inspect the harness
Trace the wiring harness from the affected sensors back to the controller (ECU or XSC). Look for chafing, pinched wires, or melted insulation where the 5V wire might be touching a 12V power wire.
Repair wiring
If a short to power is found, cut out the damaged section of the wire, solder in a new section, and seal it with heat-shrink tubing.
Test and replace the controller
If the wiring harness tests perfectly fine (no continuity to power) but the controller pin is outputting more than 5.2V directly from the module, the controller has suffered an internal power supply failure and must be replaced.
Reassemble and clear codes
Reconnect all sensors and the battery. Turn the key ON, clear the stored diagnostic trouble codes, and test operate the machine to ensure the code does not return.
