Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harnesses and connectors associated with the 5-volt supply (Sensor Supply 4) for signs of chafing, melting, corrosion, or loose pins

  2. Unplug the sensors on the #4 supply circuit one at a time while monitoring the voltage with a multimeter or John Deere Service ADVISOR to isolate an internally shorted sensor

  3. With the battery disconnected, use a multimeter to check for continuity between the 5V supply wire and the chassis ground to test for a short to ground

  4. Disconnect the harness from the module (XSC or ECU) and test the 5V output pin directly at the module to verify if the internal voltage regulator has failed

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Repair Wiring

    If a short to ground was found in the harness during diagnostics, splice in a new section of wire using weather-sealed heat-shrink connectors, or replace the damaged harness section.

  3. Replace Faulty Sensor

    If unplugging a specific sensor restored the 5V circuit, replace that sensor. Ensure the connector is clean and apply dielectric grease before seating the new sensor.

  4. Replace the Control Module

    If the XSC or ECU is failing to output 5 volts internally, the module must be replaced. Unbolt the module, swap the harnesses to the new unit, and securely mount it.

  5. Calibrate and Clear Codes

    Reconnect the battery. If the XSC module was replaced, the AutoTrac steering wheel module and wheel angle sensors will require re-calibration via the John Deere Service ADVISOR tool. Clear the inactive 003512.04 code and test the machine's operation.
