3514.03

John Deere 3514.03 – ECU / ECM: Sensor Supply Voltage 6 Out of Range High

Issue description

This code indicates that the 5-volt sensor supply circuit #6 is experiencing a voltage higher than the expected 5V limit, which almost always points to a short circuit to a 12-volt source (battery voltage).

Applies to these machines

  • 5085E
  • 5090E
  • 5090EL
  • 5100E
  • 5085M
  • 5100M
  • 5100MH
  • 5100ML
  • 5115ML
  • 9470RT
  • 9520RT
  • 9570RT
  • 8245R to 8400R
  • 6090MC
  • 6100MC
  • 6110MC
  • 6090RC
  • 6100RC
  • 6110RC

Check the cause

  1. Measure voltage output on the Sensor Supply #6 circuit at the DPF Pressure Sensor and DPF Temperature Module connectors to confirm if voltage is spiking above the normal 5V limit.

  2. Visually inspect the wiring harness connecting the ECU to the DPF sensors for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched harnesses that could cause the 5V supply wire to touch a 12V power wire.

  3. Disconnect the DPF Pressure Sensor and DPF Temperature Module one at a time. If the voltage on the circuit drops back down to a normal 5V after unplugging a specific sensor, that sensor is internally shorted.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent further electrical damage.

  2. Repair Wiring

If the diagnostic checks revealed a short in the wiring harness, repair or replace the damaged section of the wire or the connector.

  3. Replace Shorted Sensor

If unplugging the DPF Pressure Sensor or DPF Temperature Module resolved the voltage spike, replace the faulty sensor.

  4. Reassemble and Reconnect

Plug all sensors back in and reconnect the battery.

  5. Reset ECU and Validate

Clear the fault codes from the ECU. Start the engine and use a diagnostic tool or multimeter to verify that the Sensor Supply #6 circuit is maintaining a stable 5V and that the sensors are reporting accurately. Re-calibrate the sensors if required by your specific machine's Component Technical Manual (CTM).
