Issue description
The control unit detects an excessive current draw (high amps) at the driver output for the transmission range shifting module. This typically indicates a short to ground in the wiring harness, a shorted transmission solenoid, or an internal failure within the control unit itself. The driver outputs are automatically switched off to prevent electrical damage, resulting in a loss of range shifting capabilities.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness running from the PL3 control unit to the DirectDrive range transmission module for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched lines that could cause a short to ground.
Disconnect the harness at the PL3 module and at the transmission solenoids to inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or arcing.
Test the resistance (Ohms) of the DirectDrive range shifting solenoids using a multimeter. A reading of zero or near-zero indicates an internally shorted solenoid coil.
Measure the supply voltage to the PL3 module to ensure the alternator/voltage regulator is not overcharging the system, which can trigger high-current safety shutoffs.

Repair Wiring

Software Update & Calibration
If the PL3 module is replaced, it must be flashed with the latest control software via John Deere Service ADVISOR. You may also need to perform a transmission calibration procedure so the new module can learn the clutch and range engagement points.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, clear the 003597.06 fault code, and test-drive the tractor through all DirectDrive ranges (A, B, and C) to verify the repair.
