3673.07

John Deere 3673.07 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Exhaust Throttle Actuator Desired and Actual Position Mismatch During a Learn

Issue description

During the engine's automated learn/calibration cycle, the exhaust throttle valve (which regulates exhaust gas flow for thermal management and exhaust braking) is failing to reach its commanded position.

Applies to these machines

  • 5085E
  • 5090E
  • 5090EL
  • 5100E
  • 5085M
  • 5100M
  • 5100MH
  • 5100ML
  • 5115ML
  • 5090M
  • 5115M
  • 210G
  • 210GLC
  • 7R Series
  • 5045E
  • 6105E
  • 6100
  • 310SK

Check the cause

  1. Verify the ECU software version, as outdated software can cause false triggers of this code (look for updates like SW62403F, SW63920C, SW62293E)

  2. Inspect the exhaust throttle valve (located just after the turbocharger) for excessive soot or carbon buildup that could physically bind the butterfly valve

  3. Check the wiring harness and connector leading to the exhaust throttle actuator for corrosion, bent pins, or damaged wires that could interrupt the position sensor circuit

Repair steps

  1. Connect the John Deere Service ADVISOR diagnostic tool and verify all active and stored codes.

  2. Flash the Engine ECU with the latest software payload to ensure the 3673.07 code is not a false setting caused by outdated learn-cycle parameters.

  3. If the code persists after the software update, allow the exhaust system to cool completely.

  4. Locate the exhaust throttle valve assembly in the exhaust piping downstream of the turbocharger.

  5. Disconnect the electrical harness from the exhaust throttle actuator.

  6. Remove the V-band clamps (and gaskets) securing the exhaust throttle valve to the exhaust piping.

  7. Remove the faulty exhaust throttle valve assembly.

  8. Clean the mating surfaces on the exhaust piping to ensure a proper seal.

  9. Install the new exhaust throttle valve using new gaskets and V-band clamps.

Torque the clamps to OEM specifications.

  10. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  11. Use the Service ADVISOR tool to clear the fault codes and initiate a new Exhaust Throttle Actuator Learn Cycle to calibrate the new component.
