This diagnostic trouble code indicates that the calculated amount of soot inside the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) has reached a high level requiring an active regeneration to burn it off. However, the system is unable to initiate the exhaust filter cleaning process because the Auto Regeneration feature has been manually disabled by the operator (the inhibit switch is active), or the engine coolant temperature is too low to permit regeneration. If ignored, continued operation will result in engine derating and loss of machine availability.

   Verify that the DPF Regeneration switch or monitor setting is not set to 'Disable' or 'Inhibit'

   Enable Auto Regeneration

   Navigate to the Engine settings page on the monitor (or use the physical dash switch) and change the exhaust filter cleaning setting from 'Disabled' to 'Auto' (Enabled).

   Resume Normal Operation

   Operate the machine under a normal or heavy load to allow the exhaust temperatures to rise and the Auto Regeneration to complete.

   Perform a Parked Regeneration

   If the soot level has gotten too high for an Auto Regen, the monitor will display a 'Parked Cleaning Required' icon (often accompanied by a red stop lamp). Park the machine in a safe, well-ventilated area away from combustible materials. Apply the parking brake, leave the engine running, and initiate a Parked Regeneration via the monitor or switch. Do not interrupt the process until it completes automatically.

   Service ADVISOR Forced Regen

   If the soot level has exceeded the threshold where a parked regeneration is permitted, the ECU will lock out operator-initiated regenerations. A qualified John Deere technician must connect a laptop with Service ADVISOR to perform a forced service regeneration.

   DPF Cleaning/Replacement

   If the DPF is completely face-plugged with soot/ash and cannot be regenerated via Service ADVISOR, the DPF must be removed and professionally cleaned or replaced.
