John Deere 3696.02 – ICC: Regeneration Switch Malfunction

The controller is receiving an irregular or out-of-range signal voltage from the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Regeneration Switch.

   Visually inspect the DPF Regeneration Switch on the dash console to see if the rocker switch is physically broken, sticking, or failing to return to its neutral position.

   Inspect the wiring harness and the connector plugging into the back of the switch for loose pins, corrosion, or chafed wires shorting out against the steering column or dash frame.

   Perform a switch continuity test using a multimeter to test the resistance/continuity across its pins while toggling through its positions (Auto / Inhibit / Parked Regen). High resistance or an open circuit when closed indicates failing internal contacts.

   Check the main harness connector at the Instrument Cluster Control Unit (ICC) for pushed-out pins or moisture intrusion.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Switch

   Remove the necessary dash trim panels or side console covers to gain access to the rear of the instrument cluster and switch panel.

   Disconnect the Harness

   Unplug the DPF switch adapter wiring harness from the back of the DPF Regeneration Switch.

   Remove the Switch

   Depress the plastic retaining tabs on the top and bottom (or sides) of the switch body and push it outward through the front of the dash panel.

   Install the New Part

   Snap the new DPF Regeneration Switch into the dash panel until the retaining tabs click into place.

   Replace Harness (If Applicable)

   If the connector was melted or the wires were chafed, replace the DPF switch adapter harness.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical connector to the switch, reinstall the dash trim panels, and reconnect the negative battery cable.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Turn the key to the ON position. Use a diagnostic tool (or the dash display) to clear the stored ICC 003696.02 code. Start the tractor and verify that toggling the DPF switch (e.g., to the "Inhibit" position) registers correctly on the dash without throwing a new code.
