John Deere 3711.14 – ECU: Diesel Particulate Filter Active Regeneration is Inhibited Due to Low Exhaust Gas Temperature

The target temperature for the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) inlet was not reached during the Exhaust Temperature Management (ETM) process. Because the exhaust filter inlet temperature is too low, the system cannot perform an active exhaust filter cleaning, and regeneration is aborted or unavailable.

   Check engine load and conditions to ensure the engine is running under sufficient load, as light loads or excessive idling prevent necessary exhaust temperatures.

   Inspect the exhaust system for any physical blockages or restrictions that might prevent adequate temperature buildup.

   Inspect wiring and connections associated with the DOC inlet temperature sensor for damage, fraying, or looseness.

   Use a diagnostic tool to check the accuracy and plausibility of the DOC inlet temperature sensor, test the circuit for continuity and correct voltage, and ensure the sensor is free from contaminants.

   Increase Engine Load

   If the machine has been idling or operating under a very light load, operate the machine under a heavier working load to naturally increase exhaust temperatures.

   Initiate Manual Regeneration

   If the temperature issue was caused by operating conditions and the soot level has accumulated, use the CommandCenter™ or a diagnostic tool to manually initiate a parked DPF regeneration.

   Repair/Replace Wiring or Sensors

   If diagnostic testing reveals a faulty DOC inlet temperature sensor or damaged wiring harness, repair the circuit or replace the sensor.

   Clean Exhaust Components

   Clean or replace any exhaust components if physical blockages are found.

   Reset the ECU

   After resolving the underlying issue (whether by changing operating habits or replacing a sensor), reset the ECU to clear the fault code.

   Verify Function

   Run the machine and verify that the system can successfully perform active regeneration under the correct conditions without the code returning.
