John Deere 3719.1 – ECU: Calculated Soot Load Rate of Change Abnormal / The DPF Soot Load Has Increased or Decreased Too Quickly

Issue description

The Engine Control Unit has detected that the calculated Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) soot load rate is accumulating (or changing) at a rate that is significantly higher than expected. This usually triggers an engine power derate to protect the exhaust aftertreatment system.

Check the cause

  1. Check for accompanying codes, particularly ECU 003251.07 (DPF Differential Pressure Signal Mismatch/Fault) or codes related to exhaust temperatures.

  2. Inspect the DPF Differential Pressure Sensor and its metal tubes/lines for soot blockages, condensation buildup, or cracks.

  3. Check regeneration inhibition factors to ensure there are no active inhibit switches engaged by the operator and that the exhaust system is reaching the required temperatures for regeneration.

  4. Monitor live data using John Deere Service Advisor to observe the DPF soot load and differential pressure during a regeneration cycle. If the pressure drops initially but then suddenly climbs, the sensor is likely failing.

Repair steps

  1. Attempt a Service Regeneration

    Initiate a parked/manual DPF Service Regeneration using the John Deere Service Advisor tool or the in-cab display.

  2. Monitor the Sensor

    If the regeneration fails to clear the code, or if the differential pressure readings behave erratically (triggering code 003251.07), abort the regeneration.

  3. Replace the Sensor

    Disconnect the wiring harness and remove the DPF Differential Pressure Sensor. Clean out the pressure tubes to ensure they are free of soot. Install the new sensor.

  4. Perform a DPF Service Recovery

    Using Service Advisor, run a DPF Service Recovery (this can take up to 3 hours depending on soot load).

  5. Perform a Final Service Regeneration

    Run one more standard Service Regeneration to reset the soot load parameters in the ECU.

  6. Clear Codes

    Reset the ECU and clear all stored codes. Run the machine under load to verify the code does not return.
