John Deere 3719.15 – ECU or EIC: Calculated Soot Level Slightly High / DPF Soot Load Above Normal Operating Level

Issue description

The calculated soot accumulation in the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is slightly higher than expected. The exhaust filter indicator will illuminate, and the engine control module may actively reduce engine performance (derate) to prevent damage to the DPF.

Check the cause

  1. Check the Auto-Cleaning Status: Verify in the CAN monitor unit (CMU) or CommandCenter that the 'Auto Exhaust Filter Cleaning' switch is actually enabled.

  2. Check for Accompanying DTCs: Scan for other active codes that could be causing premature soot buildup, such as EGR valve faults (ECU 002791.06), Turbocharger actuator faults (ECU 2795.07), or DPF Differential Pressure Sensor mismatch (ECU 003251.07).

  3. Monitor DPF Differential Pressure: Use a diagnostic tool (like John Deere Service ADVISOR) to monitor the DPF soot load and differential pressure parameters; if the pressure drops and then suddenly climbs during a regen, the differential pressure sensor is likely failing.

Repair steps

  1. Enable Auto-Regen

    If conditions are safe, enable the auto exhaust filter clean setting in the cab monitor and operate the engine above 1000–1200 RPM to allow an automatic cleaning to occur.

  2. Perform a Parked Regeneration

    If the code persists, initiate a manual/parked service regeneration via the operator's manual procedure.

  3. Perform Service ADVISOR Recovery

    If the soot load is too high for a standard parked regen, connect John Deere Service ADVISOR. Perform a 'DPF Service Recovery' (up to 3 hours), followed immediately by a 'Service Regeneration' (approx. 1 hour).

  4. Replace Faulty Sensors

    If the regeneration fails to clear the code, or if a differential pressure mismatch code appears during the regen, replace the DPF Differential Pressure Sensor.

  5. Reset Parameters

    After replacing the sensor or the DPF itself, use Service ADVISOR to reset the soot load parameters and clear the codes.
