John Deere 444.06 – Hitch Control Module (HCC): Issue With Amps To Hitch control module (HCC)

Triggered when the unswitched supply current to the module is too high, or if there is a supply voltage anomaly. The system detects that the electrical load or amperage feeding the hitch control circuit is outside of normal operating parameters, which can cause the module to experience limited or no functionality.

   Cycle the key switch off and back on to clear potential temporary glitches

   Test battery health and verify the alternator and voltage regulator are operating correctly, as voltage spikes or drops can trigger amp-related faults

   Check the fuses supplying unswitched power to the rear control unit / HCC for blown fuses or heavy oxidation

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the HCC for wear, damage, pinched wires, or corrosion at the connector pins, and ensure ground connections are clean and secure

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Module

   Locate the Hitch Control Module (HCC) in the right-hand cab console.

   Test the Circuit

   Disconnect the harness from the HCC. Using a multimeter, test the power and ground pins on the harness side to ensure proper voltage is reaching the module and that there is no short to ground in the wiring.

   Replace the Module

   If the wiring harness tests good, the internal circuitry of the HCC has likely failed. Remove the retaining screws/clips holding the faulty Hitch Control Module and remove it from the console.

   Install the New Part

   Plug the harness into the new Hitch Control Module and secure it into the console.

   Reassemble and Calibrate

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key switch on and clear the stored fault codes. Depending on the exact model, you may need to perform a rear hitch calibration procedure via the CommandCenter or Service ADVISOR tool so the new module learns the hitch position sensor limits.
