5016.06

John Deere 5016.06 – CCU (Chassis Control Unit): 12 Volt Supply High AMPS

Issue description

The system has detected an overcurrent (excessive amperage draw) on the 12-volt power supply circuit. This is typically caused by a short circuit to ground, a damaged wiring harness, or a failing component on that specific circuit drawing more current than the system allows.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110M
  • 6120M
  • 6130M
  • 6145M
  • 6155M
  • 6175M
  • 6195M
  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R
  • 7200R
  • 8320R

Check the cause

  1. Check for secondary codes that might pinpoint a specific sensor, solenoid, or actuator that is shorting out the 12V supply

  2. Inspect the wiring harness connected to the Rear Chassis Module for chafing, bare wires, or pinch points that could cause a short to the tractor's chassis ground

  3. Inspect the CCU electrical connectors (such as the Rear Cab Interconnect and Rear Chassis Interconnect) for corrosion, moisture ingress, or damaged pins

  4. Use a multimeter to test the 12-volt supply circuit for continuity to ground to isolate the source of the high amperage draw before condemning the module itself

Repair steps

  1. Record Data

Before removing the old unit, record the engine hours from the current CCU (this will be needed for the new unit).

  2. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the battery ground (—) cable.

  3. Disconnect Module

Disconnect the electrical connectors from the control unit.

  4. Removal

Remove the control unit mounting screws and extract the faulty CCU.

  5. Installation

Install the new CCU in the reverse order of removal.

  6. Calibration

Reconnect the battery ground. You must calibrate the new control unit using John Deere service software and enter the recorded engine hours.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Chassis Control Unit (CCU) / Rear Chassis Controller Unit

    RE323629

Controller / Vehicle Control Unit - fitment varies by exact model, e.g., 8R series. The CCU is a programmable module; a new unit requires dealer-level calibration and engine hour programming upon installation.

  • Chassis Control Unit (CCU) / Rear Chassis Controller Unit

    RE275139

Vehicle Control Unit - superseded/sub part. The CCU is a programmable module; a new unit requires dealer-level calibration and engine hour programming upon installation.
