Issue description

The control module has detected an abnormally high voltage on the circuit supplying the stepper motor for Selective Control Valve (SCV) 10, which is often utilized for the front hitch single-acting valve. This condition typically points to a short-to-power in the wiring harness, a failed stepper motor actuator, or an internal fault within the control module.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect harness connectors at the SCV 10 stepper motor and the SCO module for pushed pins, corrosion, moisture intrusion, or loose connections.

  2. Trace the wiring harness between the SCO module and the SCV 10 valve for chafing, pinched wires, or melted insulation that could cause a short to a 12V power source.

  3. Measure the supply voltage at the SCV 10 connector (key ON, engine OFF) to ensure it is within the specified range (5V or 12V reference).

  4. If the wiring harness tests good, check the SCO module for an internal fault causing it to output excessive voltage.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn the key switch to the OFF position and disconnect the battery ground to prevent accidental shorts during testing.

  2. Access the Valve

    Locate SCV 10 / the Front Hitch control valve assembly (typically located at the front chassis block).

  3. Harness Testing

    Disconnect the electrical connector from the SCV 10 stepper motor. Reconnect the battery and turn the key to the ON position. Measure the voltage at the harness connector pins.

  4. Repair Wiring

    If a short-to-power is found during multimeter testing, repair or replace the damaged section of the front chassis wiring harness.

  5. Replace Actuator

    If the harness voltage is correct but the code remains active when plugged in, the internal circuitry of the SCV 10 stepper motor has failed. Replace the stepper motor/actuator assembly.

  6. Module Replacement (Worst Case)

    If the SCO module is outputting battery voltage on a 5V reference circuit, the SCO module must be replaced and reprogrammed by a dealer.

  7. Calibration

    After replacing the SCV stepper motor or SCO module, use a diagnostic tool (like John Deere Service ADVISOR) to clear the fault codes and perform a Front Hitch / SCV calibration.
