Issue description

The current in the 12V sensor supply 1 circuit of the Armrest Interface Control Unit has exceeded safe levels. This abnormal current draw almost always indicates a short to ground within the circuit or a shorted sensor on that specific 12V supply line. The control unit responds by degrading or disabling functions to protect the circuit.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness connected to the Armrest Interface Control Unit (specifically the 12V Sensor Supply 1 circuit) for visible damage, chafing, pinched wires, or melted insulation that could cause a short to the chassis ground.

  2. Perform a sensor isolation test by disconnecting the sensors on this circuit one at a time (such as throttle potentiometers, SCV lever sensors, or PTO switches). If the fault goes inactive or current drops to normal when a specific sensor is unplugged, that sensor is internally shorted.

  3. Disconnect the harness from the AIC and test the 12V Supply 1 pin directly. If the AIC is outputting excessive current or shows an internal short to ground with nothing connected, the module itself has failed.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery ground cable before performing electrical repairs.

  2. Repair Wiring

    If a chafed or damaged wire was found during the harness inspection, repair the wire using OEM-approved splicing methods and heat-shrink tubing, or replace the affected harness section.

  3. Replace Shorted Sensor

    If the isolation test identified a faulty sensor (e.g., a shorted SCV control lever sensor or throttle potentiometer), remove the defective sensor and install a new one.

  4. Replace the AIC Module

    If the wiring and sensors test good but the AIC itself is internally shorted: Remove the armrest console covers to access the AIC module, disconnect the CAN/LIN bus and power connectors, unbolt and remove the faulty AIC, install the new AIC, and reconnect the harnesses.

  5. Reassemble and Calibrate

    Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and clear the stored fault codes. Note that a new AIC module will require configuration and calibration (such as Device ID Address and Armrest System Beep Mode) using John Deere Service ADVISOR.
