John Deere 516397.05 – Gear Shift Module Direct Drive (PL1 / PL2): Low Amps On Park Lock Solenoid Direct Drive, Gear Shift Module Direct Drive
Issue description
The transmission control software detects that the electrical current value at Park Lock Solenoid 1 is too low. This condition typically indicates an open circuit, a disconnected harness, or a failed solenoid coil that is preventing proper current flow.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to Park Lock Solenoid 1 for visible signs of damage, wear, or disconnection. Ensure the connector is secure and pins are free of corrosion.
Test for continuity in the wiring harness between the gear shift control module (PL1/PL2) and the solenoid using a multimeter to rule out a broken wire.
Measure the resistance of the Park Lock Solenoid 1 coil. If the resistance is infinite (open), the solenoid has failed internally.
Verify there are no accompanying CAN bus communication errors (such as 002190.09 or 002192.09), which could indicate a broader network issue rather than a localized solenoid failure.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.
Locate the Solenoid
Locate Park Lock Solenoid 1 on the DirectDrive transmission valve block.
Harness Repair (If Applicable)
If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or corroded connector, repair the wiring harness or replace the pigtail connector.
Solenoid Replacement (If Applicable)
If the wiring is intact but the solenoid coil is open, remove the retaining hardware securing the solenoid valve to the transmission. Extract the faulty solenoid and install the replacement, ensuring any O-rings are properly seated and lubricated with clean transmission fluid.
Reassembly and Testing
Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery. Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool or the tractor's command center. Start the tractor and cycle the park lock to verify that the code does not return and the transmission engages/disengages park correctly.
