516451.31

John Deere 516451.31 – SCC: CAN BUS Message Fault Rear Chassis (SCC) / SCV XV Control Lever Command Missing

Issue description

The controller has lost CAN BUS communication with the Selective Control Valve (SCV) lever, or the command signal from the lever is missing, which will typically cause the affected SCVs to cut out or stop working entirely.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R
  • 8R Series
  • 8RT Series
  • 8225R
  • 8320R
  • 8345R
  • 8400R
  • 9R Series

Check the cause

  1. Test for power and ground directly at the affected SCV connector

  2. Trace the harness back to the frame connectors behind the SCV and inspect for moisture damage, pushed pins, or corrosion

  3. Test continuity from the frame connector to the middle connector of the Rear Chassis Controller (SCC) located under the panel behind the cab

  4. Check chassis ground connections and CAN BUS lines for communication drops or bad grounds

Repair steps

  1. Harness Repair

If you find a lack of continuity between the SCV frame connector and the middle connector of the SCC, the rear chassis harness is compromised. You must either replace the harness or run a new overlay wire to restore the circuit.

  2. Temporary Field Fix

If an SCV has lost power or ground and you need to finish a task, you can temporarily jump power or ground from an unused SCV connector to the affected SCV to get it working until a permanent harness repair can be made.

  3. Module Replacement

If the wiring harness tests perfectly (good continuity, no shorts to ground/power) but the SCC is failing to output or receive the CAN messages, the SCC itself must be replaced.

  4. Calibration

If the SCC is replaced, use John Deere Service Advisor to configure the new controller and calibrate the SCVs.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Rear Chassis Controller (Vehicle Control Module / SCC)

    RE323629

    Replaces older part number RE275131. Fits a wide variety of 8R/8RT series tractors (e.g., 8225R, 8320R, 8345R).

  • Rear Chassis Harness

Part numbers for the main rear chassis harness vary heavily depending on the exact machine model, wheelbase, and SCV configuration. You will need to look up the specific harness in the John Deere parts catalog using the machine's PIN/Serial Number.
