516454.03

John Deere 516454.03 – SCO: SCV 10 Calibration Issue / Front Hitch Calibration Fault

Issue description

The system is unable to successfully learn the end-stops, flow rates, or position sensor voltages for the SCV or front hitch actuator.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R
  • 8245R to 8400R

Check the cause

  1. Fluid Temperature Check: Ensure the tractor's hydraulic/transmission oil is fully heated to operating temperature. Cold oil will cause the calibration to fail.

  2. Air Purge: Perform a good "automated air purge" of the hydraulic system to ensure no trapped air is affecting valve movement.

  3. Check for Related Codes: Look for accompanying voltage or temperature codes (e.g., SCO 516455.00 for Actuator Temperature High or SCO 516458.01 for Actuator Voltage Low), which would indicate a hard electrical fault rather than just a calibration issue.

Repair steps

  1. Warm Up the Tractor

Drive the tractor and shift often (every 5–10 seconds) through the gears to eliminate cold spots and heat the entire transmission and hydraulic system.

  2. Purge the System

Run the automated air purge procedure. Crucial note: Do not drive the tractor after shifting to PARK at the end of the air purge.

  3. Initiate Calibration

Using the tractor's right-hand display (CommandCenter), John Deere Service ADVISOR™, or a compatible aftermarket tool (like TEXA), navigate to the SCV or Front Hitch calibration menu.

  4. Run the Routine

Follow the on-screen prompts exactly. Failing to follow the procedure exactly can cause poor valve calibrations.

  5. Clear Codes

Once the calibration procedure completes successfully, the error will automatically move from an "active" to a "stored" status, resetting the fault memory. The vehicle is then ready to return to work.
