Issue description
This code triggers when the hydraulic oil temperature within the Selective Control Valve (SCV) #10 circuit rises beyond normal operating limits. In John Deere closed-center, load-sensing hydraulic systems, this condition indicates excessive energy loss where mechanical energy is being converted into heat rather than useful work. The primary root causes are internal leakage (oil bypassing the spool or coupler seals), a stuck compensator valve causing the pump to deliver maximum flow constantly, or continuous relief valve operation due to a stuck flow control lever.

Check the cause
Visual & Fluid Inspection: Check the hydraulic oil level and ensure the hydraulic oil cooler and cooling fan are functioning properly.
Check Flow Controls: Ensure the SCV flow control levers/settings in the cab are not stuck in continuous flow (e.g., stuck on "rabbit" or continuous detent), which forces oil over the relief valve and rapidly generates heat.
Pressure Gauge Test: Connect a pressure gauge to the diagnostic port. Confirm if the hydraulic pump is reaching its rated pressure (typically 2,000 to 2,500 PSI). If the pump is whining or failing to reach pressure, the compensator valve on the pump may be stuck, causing constant maximum flow and overheating.
Coupler Leakage Test: Check the SCV 10 couplers for internal leaks. A blown internal white/yellow O-ring or backup ring inside the coupler housing will allow high-pressure oil to bypass directly to the drain passage, creating severe localized heat.
Repair steps
Relieve Pressure
Park the machine safely, turn off the engine, and cycle the SCV levers to relieve all hydraulic system pressure.
Access the SCV
Remove the plastic dust covers over the rear SCV block (on some models, these simply pop off without removing bolts).
Remove the Couplers
Locate the small snap ring holding the SCV coupler in place. Use a pocket screwdriver to carefully remove the snap ring. Push the SCV lever to release the tension and slide the coupler out.
Replace Internal Seals
Use a pick to remove the old O-ring and backup ring from inside the housing. Install the new O-ring first, working it evenly into the groove. Next, install the backup ring (hold it in place with a finger and use a pick to carefully work each side into the groove until fully seated). Note: A worn backup ring will cause internal leakage even if the coupler looks fine.
Replace SCV Spool/Barrel (If necessary)
If the barrel itself is scored or bypassing fluid, remove the retaining ring with a flathead screwdriver, use a 27mm socket to unseat the SCV, and use needle-nose pliers to pull the SCV barrel out. Install the new SCV spool kit.
Reassembly
Slide the coupler back into the housing (lightly tap it into place with a hammer and punch if it stops partway). Reinstall the snap ring, ensuring it seats fully.
Test the Repair
Attach pressure gauges to the couplers. Activate the SCV lever and release. Verify that the pressure holds steady without dropping rapidly. Clear the SCO fault codes.
