John Deere 516455.04 – Front Chassis Module (SCO): SCV 10 Valve Low Temperature

The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the Selective Control Valve (SCV) 10 temperature sensor that falls below the acceptable minimum threshold, typically indicating an open circuit, a disconnected wiring harness, or a completely failed thermistor/temperature sensor inside the SCV 10 assembly.

   Perform a visual inspection of the SCV 10 valve block electrical connector for backed-out pins, corrosion, or a disconnected plug

   Trace the wiring harness from the SCV 10 valve back to the SCO (Front Chassis Module) and check for chafing, pinch points, or broken wires

   Unplug the connector at the SCV 10 valve and measure the resistance across the temperature sensor pins with a digital multimeter (an 'Open' or OL reading confirms internal sensor failure)

   Turn the key to the ON position and measure the reference voltage coming from the SCO module to the sensor connector to ensure it is sending the correct signal (typically 5V)

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

   Clean and Reconnect

   If the connector was loose or dirty, spray it with electronic contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and firmly reconnect it. Re-test the machine to see if the code clears.

   Replace the Sensor/Valve

   If the sensor failed the resistance test, remove the faulty SCV 10 temperature sensor. (Note: On some John Deere E-SCV blocks, the temperature sensor is integrated into the valve slice or stepper motor assembly and cannot be serviced independently. If this is the case, the specific SCV cartridge/slice must be replaced).

   Install the New Part

   Thread the new sensor or install the new SCV cartridge into the valve block. Torque to OEM specifications to prevent hydraulic leaks.

   Reassemble and Bleed

   Reconnect the electrical harness. If hydraulic lines were removed to access the valve, top off the hydraulic fluid and cycle the SCV manually to bleed any trapped air.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery. Use John Deere Service ADVISOR (or a compatible heavy-duty scan tool) to clear the 516455.04 historical code and recalibrate the SCV module if a new valve slice was installed.
