Issue description

Check the cause

  1. Place the tractor transmission in park, stop the engine, and remove the key for safety

  2. Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the Front Chassis Control Unit to the SCV 10 / Front Hitch Valve for chafing, pinched wires, or melted insulation

  3. Disconnect the electrical connector at the SCV 10 valve and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or damage

  4. Using a multimeter, test the driver circuit wire for a short-to-power, and verify the 5-Volt supply voltage circuit and ground circuits at the Front Chassis Control Unit

  5. Measure the resistance of the SCV 10 valve solenoid coil to ensure it is within OEM specifications and not internally shorted or open

  6. Use the tractor's CommandCenter display or John Deere Service Advisor to access the SCO diagnostic addresses and monitor the voltage status of the front hitch driver circuit

Repair steps

  1. Isolate the Fault

    Based on the multimeter and diagnostic tests, determine if the issue is the wiring, the valve solenoid, or the Front Chassis Control Unit.

  2. Wiring Repair

    If a short-to-power is found in the harness, repair the damaged section of the wire using weather-sealed connectors, or replace the affected front hitch driver wiring harness segment.

  3. Valve/Solenoid Replacement

    If the SCV 10 valve coil fails the resistance test, remove the retaining nut on the solenoid, slide the old coil off the valve cartridge, and install a new OEM solenoid coil. Reconnect the harness.

  4. Module Replacement

    If the wiring and valve test perfectly, the Front Chassis Control Unit itself may have a failed internal driver. Replace the module and have a John Deere dealer flash/program the new unit to the tractor's CAN bus system.

  5. Clear Codes

    Use a John Deere DTC eraser or the Service Advisor tool to clear the 516460.03 code.

  6. Operational Test

    Start the tractor and operate the front hitch / SCV 10 via the cab controls to ensure the high voltage fault does not return and the implement moves smoothly.
