John Deere 516461.02 – AIC (Armrest Interface Control Unit): Arm Rest Joystick Lever Out Of Range / SCV XV Control Lever Switch/Sensor Conflict
Issue description
This fault code indicates a conflict between the detent switch of the SCV XV (Selective Control Valve XV) control lever and the lever's actual position. The signal voltage of the SCV XV control lever is out of range, or the switch status and the potentiometer signal voltage do not match. This discrepancy points to an issue with either the switch's sensitivity or the lever's feedback mechanism, resulting in incorrect signal processing and limited function.

Check the cause
Check the SCV XV control lever (armrest joystick) for physical damage, debris, or mechanical sticking that could prevent the lever from returning to its neutral position or engaging the detent switch properly.
Check the wiring harness and connectors between the SCV XV control lever and the AIC module for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins.
Use a multimeter or John Deere Service ADVISOR to monitor the signal voltage of the SCV XV control lever potentiometer and the status of the detent switch. Verify if the voltage is out of range or if the switch state contradicts the potentiometer reading.
Repair steps
Power Down
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the park brake, lower the rockshaft, and turn the engine off. Disconnect battery power if performing electrical replacements.
Access the AIC
Remove the necessary trim panels on the right-hand armrest console to access the SCV control levers and the Armrest Interface Control Unit.
Inspect/Clean
If the lever is mechanically sticking due to dirt or debris, clean the assembly and re-test the lever's movement.
Replace Faulty Component
If the diagnostic tests confirm that the detent switch or potentiometer has failed (signal voltage out of range), the SCV control lever/joystick assembly or its internal circuit board must be replaced. Disconnect the electrical harness from the faulty lever, unbolt the bracket/set screws, and install the new lever.
Reassemble and Calibrate
Reconnect the wiring harness and reinstall the armrest trim. Clear the active 516461.02 fault code using a diagnostic tool and perform any required SCV lever calibrations to ensure the AIC module recognizes the new potentiometer sweep.
