516704.18

John Deere 516704.18 – Rear Chassis Module (SCC): SCV 5 Valve Low Voltage

Issue description

The control module is detecting a lower-than-expected electrical voltage on the circuit that supplies power to the number 5 Selective Control Valve (SCV).

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R

Check the cause

  1. Verify system voltage at the battery and alternator to ensure the entire system is receiving proper voltage

  2. Visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the Rear Chassis Module (SCC) and the SCV 5 valve for damage, pinched wires, corrosion, or accumulated debris

  3. Check SCC supply voltage via the CommandCenter display or Service Advisor tool (addresses SCC 013 and SCC 014) to verify the module is receiving adequate power

  4. Test the voltage and resistance at the SCV 5 valve coil to determine if the solenoid has failed internally

  5. Check for associated communication codes (such as PDU 002034.09) that might indicate a broader CAN bus or module failure

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all hydraulic implements to the ground, relieve hydraulic pressure, and disconnect the battery.

  2. Access the SCV Stack

Locate the rear hydraulic SCV stack and identify the #5 valve slice/solenoid.

  3. Repair Wiring

If diagnostics revealed a damaged harness or corroded connector at the SCV 5 valve or SCC module, repair the wiring or replace the connector pigtail.

  4. Replace the SCV Solenoid/Valve

If the valve coil is faulty, remove the retaining hardware and replace the SCV 5 solenoid or the entire SCV slice, depending on the component's serviceability.

  5. Replace the SCC Module

If the module has failed internally and is not outputting voltage to the valve despite having good inputs, replace the Rear Chassis Module (SCC).

  6. Reassemble and Refill

Reconnect all electrical connections. If hydraulic lines were removed, check the hydraulic fluid level and top off as necessary.

  7. Calibrate the System

After replacing an SCV component or the SCC module, the system must be calibrated. Use the John Deere CommandCenter or Service Advisor tool to perform the Selective Control Valve Control Unit (SCC) Configuration and Calibration.

  8. Clear Codes and Test

Clear the 516704.18 fault code and test the SCV 5 function under load to ensure the voltage issue is resolved.
