John Deere 516705.03 – Rear Chassis Module (SCC): SCV 6 Valve High Temperature
Issue description
The hydraulic oil temperature within Selective Control Valve (SCV) number 6 has exceeded normal operating limits, typically caused by internal leakage, continuous relief valve operation, or a failure in the load-sensing (LS) control circuit.

Check the cause
Verify that the implement connected to SCV 6 is not causing continuous relief valve activation (e.g., a blocked line, deadheading, or incorrect flow settings on the display).
Monitor the overall hydraulic oil temperature. If the entire system is overheating, the issue may be the main hydraulic pump or load-sensing (LS) circuit rather than SCV 6 specifically.
Check SCV 6 for internal leakage. Wear in the spool or bore can cause high-pressure oil to bypass directly to the return circuit, generating immense heat.
Use a hydraulic flow meter to ensure SCV 6 is outputting the correct flow and pressure matching the tractor's demand settings.
Repair steps
Relieve Pressure
Turn off the tractor and actuate the SCV levers/controls to relieve all hydraulic pressure in the system. Warning: Escaping high-pressure fluid can penetrate the skin.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the rear SCV stack to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Disconnect Lines
Disconnect the hydraulic lines and the electrical harness connector from the SCV 6 valve section.
Remove the Valve
Unbolt the SCV 6 section from the rear hydraulic valve stack.
Inspect/Rebuild
Disassemble the valve to inspect the spool and bore for scoring. If minor wear is present, rebuild the valve using an OEM spool kit. If the bore is heavily scored or the electronic actuator is faulty, the entire SCV section must be replaced.
Reinstall
Install the new or rebuilt SCV valve, torque the stack bolts to OEM specifications, and reconnect the hydraulic lines and electrical connector.
Test
Start the tractor, operate SCV 6 to bleed air from the system, and check for leaks and proper temperature stabilization under load.
