John Deere 516706.01 – Rear Chassis Module (SCC): Low Voltage On Rear SCV Valves 5

The control module is detecting an abnormally low electrical voltage (or an open circuit/high resistance) on the circuit supplying the number 5 rear Selective Control Valve (SCV).

   Check the Circuit Breaker/Fuses: Verify the circuit breaker load side for proper battery voltage. If there is no voltage, check for an open circuit from the battery. If voltage is dim/low, the circuit breaker itself may need replacement.

   Inspect Wiring for High Resistance: A low voltage code is often caused by high resistance in the circuit between the circuit breaker/SCC and the SCV component. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the rear SCV stack for chafing, corrosion, or pinched wires.

   Check the Ground Circuit: Check the component ground lead for voltage. If voltage is present on the ground side, you have an open ground circuit that needs to be repaired.

   Clean and Inspect Connections: Check and clean the power distribution center connections and the specific connector at Rear SCV 5.

   Clean the Area

   Use an air wand/compressor and brake cleaner to blow away all dirt and debris around the rear SCV stack. A clogged drain passage can trap dirt and cause contamination when hoses are disconnected.

   Relieve Pressure

   Operate the SCV levers/controls to relieve any residual hydraulic pressure in the system.

   Remove Covers

   Pop off or unbolt the plastic covers shielding the SCV stack.

   Remove the Coupler/Valve

   Locate the small retaining snap ring holding the SCV coupler/barrel in place. Use a pocket screwdriver to carefully remove the snap ring. Push the SCV lever to release the mechanism and slide the coupler out. (Note: Have a leakproof container ready to catch draining hydraulic fluid).

   Replace O-Rings (If Rebuilding)

   If you are rebuilding the coupler rather than replacing the whole valve, use a pick to remove the internal white/yellow O-ring and backup ring. Install the new O-ring first, followed by the backup ring, ensuring they seat fully into the groove.

   Install New Component

   Slide the new SCV valve/spool kit into the housing. If it stops partway, lightly tap it into place.

   Reassemble

   Reinstall the snap ring, ensuring it seats fully so the valve doesn't pop out under pressure. Reinstall the plastic covers.

   Test the Repair

   Reattach pressure gauges or implements. Activate the SCV 5 lever and release it. Verify that the pressure holds steady without dropping rapidly and check for any fluid leaks. Clear the fault code from the CommandCenter display.
