516706

John Deere 516706 – Rear Chassis Module (SCC): High Voltage On Rear SCV Valve 5

Issue description

The control module has detected an abnormally high voltage on the circuit responsible for operating the #5 Rear Selective Control Valve (SCV). This condition is typically caused by a short-to-power in the wiring harness, a failed SCV control module/solenoid, or an internal fault within the chassis controller.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R

Check the cause

  1. Perform the SCC—SV I, III, V and VII Power and Ground Circuit Test to verify the integrity of the power delivery to the valve.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness running from the Rear Chassis Module (SCC) to the Rear SCV Valve 5. Look for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched areas that could cause a short-to-power.

  3. Disconnect the electrical connector at the Rear SCV Valve 5. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or damage.

  4. Use a multimeter to check the voltage at the SCV connector. If high voltage is present constantly (even when the valve is not being commanded), the issue is likely in the wiring harness or the SCC itself. If the voltage is normal but the code persists, the SCV control module has likely failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve all hydraulic system pressure before working on the SCV valves.

Escaping high-pressure fluid can cause serious injury.

  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

  3. Locate the Rear SCV Valve 5 assembly on the rear hydraulic valve stack of the tractor.

  4. Carefully unplug the electrical harness connector from the SCV Reconfigurable Control Module.

  5. Unbolt the faulty SCV control module from the hydraulic valve body.

  6. Mount the replacement Rear SCV Reconfigurable Control Module to the valve body and tighten the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.

  7. Reconnect the electrical harness to the new module.

  8. Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 516706.00 fault code.

Actuate Rear SCV 5 to ensure proper hydraulic operation and verify that the code does not return.
