516741.06

John Deere 516741.06 – Front Chassis Module (SCO): Front SCV 14 To 15 Diverter Valve High Amp Draw

Issue description

The controller has detected that the electrical current (amperage) being drawn by the diverter valve solenoid circuit is exceeding the maximum specified limit. This typically indicates a short circuit to ground in the wiring harness or an internally shorted solenoid coil.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness running from the Front Chassis Module (SCO) to the Front SCV diverter valve. Look for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched harnesses that could be shorting to the tractor's chassis.

  2. Disconnect the diverter valve solenoid. Check the connector pins for corrosion, water ingress, or signs of arcing/melting.

  3. Using a multimeter, measure the resistance (ohms) across the diverter valve solenoid coil pins. A reading of zero or significantly lower than the OEM specification indicates the coil windings have shorted internally (which causes the high amp draw).

  4. With the solenoid disconnected, test the power supply wire for a short to ground back to the SCO module.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and engage the park brake. Relieve all hydraulic pressure in the system by cycling the SCV controls, as escaping high-pressure fluid can cause serious injury.

  2. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

  3. Locate the Valve

Locate the Front SCV diverter valve assembly (typically mounted near the front hitch/loader mounting frame).

  4. Remove the Faulty Component

Disconnect the electrical harness from the solenoid. Remove the cap screws (usually 4) securing the diverter valve or solenoid to the mounting bracket/manifold.

  5. Install the New Part

Install the replacement diverter valve or solenoid coil. Ensure all O-rings or seals are properly seated. Tighten the mounting cap screws to the specified torque.

  6. Reconnect

Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery.

  7. Test

Start the tractor, clear the stored 516741.06 fault code, and actuate the front SCV functionality. Check the valve area with a piece of cardboard to ensure there are no hydraulic leaks.
