520425.07

John Deere 520425.07 – RLC: Received CAN Bus Messages, High Error Rate

Issue description

Triggered when the error counter for the vehicle's Controller Area Network (CAN) Bus reaches an unusually high level. This indicates persistent communication errors within the CAN Bus network, typically caused by electrical interference/noise, faulty physical connections, damaged wiring, or incompatible/malfunctioning devices.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the CAN Bus network for physical defects, focusing on the wiring harness routing to the Cab Roof Module. Look for damaged wires, chafing, or poor/corroded connections.

  2. Use John Deere Service ADVISOR or compatible diagnostic software to monitor CAN Bus traffic and identify sources of errors, such as electrical noise.

  3. Check for and address any incompatible, aftermarket, or malfunctioning devices connected to the CAN Bus that may be contributing to the high error rate.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the battery ground cable (-) before making adjustments to the electrical system to prevent short circuits.

  2. Repair/Replace Wiring

If physical defects were found during the diagnostic checks, repair or replace the faulty wiring harnesses or connectors leading to the RLC.

  3. Check/Replace Terminators

Ensure the CAN Bus terminators are intact and functioning, as failed terminators cause high error rates on the network.

  4. Replace Module (If Necessary)

If the wiring and terminators are sound but the RLC is internally shorted or failing to process messages, replace the Cab Roof Electronic Control Unit.

  5. Reconfigure Network

Ensure that all devices on the network are properly configured and functioning within their specified parameters.

  6. Clear Codes and Test

Reconnect the battery. After resolving the underlying issues, reset the error counter using diagnostic software and monitor the CAN Bus operation to ensure that error rates remain low and normal function is restored.
