John Deere 520426.07 – CSC: Vehicle CAN Bus Error Counter High
Issue description
The controller detects that too many incorrect CAN Bus messages are being transmitted, or no messages are being transmitted at all, indicating a severe communication breakdown on the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus.

Check the cause
Inspect the CAN Bus Network: Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the CSC for physical damage, chafing, loose connections, or corrosion at the connector pins.
Verify Termination Resistors: Check termination resistors at both ends of the network to ensure they have not failed.
Check for Electrical Interference: Ensure no aftermarket electronics or damaged high-voltage components are inducing electrical noise near the CAN bus harness.
Software Verification: Check if the CSC control software is up-to-date.
Repair steps
Connect Diagnostic Tool
Connect John Deere Service ADVISOR™ to the diagnostic port to confirm 520426.07 is active and check for any accompanying voltage codes (e.g., 520542.03 or 520543.04, which indicate CAN+ or CAN- short circuits).
Test CAN Bus Resistance
Disconnect the machine's battery. Using a multimeter, measure the resistance between the CAN High and CAN Low pins at the diagnostic connector. A healthy CAN bus should read approximately 60 ohms. If it reads 120 ohms, one terminating resistor has failed or there is an open circuit. If it reads near 0 ohms, the CAN lines are shorted together.
Isolate the Fault
If the resistance is incorrect, disconnect the CSC module. If the resistance returns to normal, the internal circuitry of the CSC has failed. If the resistance remains incorrect, the fault lies in the wiring harness or the termination resistors.
Repair/Replace
Repair any broken wires or replace faulty CAN terminators. If the CSC module is deemed faulty, replace it.
Reprogram and Calibrate
If the CSC is replaced, use Service ADVISOR™ to program the new payload to the controller and clear the error codes.
Operational Checkout
Turn the key switch ON and verify that the CAN bus error counter remains at zero and the code does not return.
