Check the cause

  1. Inspect the CAN Bus Network for physical damage, chafing, loose connections, or corrosion at the connector pins.

  2. Verify Termination Resistors at both ends of the network (incorrect or failed termination is a primary cause).

  3. Check for Electrical Interference from aftermarket electronics or damaged high-voltage wires routing too close to the CAN bus network.

  4. Check Module Power/Ground by verifying battery and ignition supply voltages to the Front Chassis Module, including relevant system fuses (e.g., F30 or F22).

  5. Verify if the SFA control software is updated to the latest version to address any known CAN message processing bugs.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the key switch and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during testing.

  2. Harness Repair

    If the visual inspection revealed damaged wiring or corroded pins at the SFA module connector, clean the contacts with electronic cleaner or splice/repair the compromised wiring using OEM-approved CAN bus repair methods.

  3. Test/Replace Terminators

    Locate the CAN bus terminators. Bench-test them or test the network resistance with a multimeter (a healthy CAN bus with the battery disconnected should read approximately 60 ohms across CAN High and CAN Low). If a terminator is faulty, unplug it and install a replacement.

  4. Clear Codes and Retest

    Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and use John Deere Service ADVISOR (or a compatible scanner) to clear the 520426.07 code. Operate the machine to see if the code returns.

  5. Module Replacement

    If the wiring is perfect, the terminators are good, and the code immediately returns, the SFA Front Chassis Module itself has likely suffered an internal hardware failure on its CAN transceiver. Replace the SFA module and use Service ADVISOR to flash the correct software and calibrate the module to the tractor.
