Check the cause

  1. Ensure the operator is fully and firmly seated in the seat (Operational Check).

  2. Check if SCV XIV (or other SCV/PTO controls) was left engaged. Return the SCV lever to the neutral position.

  3. Cycle the key switch or restart the engine to attempt system recovery.

  4. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector beneath the seat going to the operator presence switch for pinched wires, disconnected plugs, or corrosion.

  5. Use a multimeter to test the seat switch for continuity. The switch state should change when weight is applied to the seat cushion. If it does not, the switch has failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Park the tractor

Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and remove the key.

  2. Locate the operator presence switch

Locate the operator presence switch, which is typically mounted under the bottom seat cushion or within the seat suspension assembly.

  3. Disconnect the electrical wiring harness

Carefully disconnect the electrical wiring harness plug from the seat switch.

  4. Remove the faulty switch

Remove the retaining hardware or unclip the faulty switch from the seat frame/cushion pan.

  5. Install the new switch

Install the new operator presence switch into the mounting slot and secure it.

  6. Reconnect the electrical harness

Reconnect the electrical harness plug, ensuring it clicks firmly into place.

  7. Verify the repair

Sit in the operator seat, start the tractor, and engage the SCV to verify that the system recognizes your presence and fault code 520451.31 does not return.
