John Deere 520529.13 – SCO: Front Loader Boom Position Sensor Calibration

Issue description

Generated when one or more functions (specifically the front loader boom position sensor) are activated in the control software but have not yet been calibrated. This prevents advanced loader functions, such as the Return-to-Position (RTP) and Electronic Self-Leveling (ESL), from operating correctly.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R
  • 640R
  • 660R
  • 683R

Check the cause

  1. Verify the boom position sensor voltage is within the normal operating range of 0.25V to 4.75V.

  2. Inspect the sensor wiring harness (specifically the green wire) for physical damage, open circuits, or shorts to ground.

  3. Ensure the loader boom is not physically blocked and that hydraulic hoses are connected correctly.

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Machine

Park the tractor on a level surface. If you need to inspect the sensor under the raised boom, use the hydraulic shut-off valve located on the R-Series loader to lock out the boom and prevent it from lowering suddenly.

  2. Inspect the Sensor

Locate the Front Loader Boom Position Sensor on the loader linkage. Ensure the sensor linkage is intact and the electrical connector is securely seated.

  3. Perform Calibration

If the sensor and wiring are healthy, access the loader/joystick settings via the tractor's CommandCenter (Gen 4 display) or use John Deere Service ADVISOR to initiate the 'Front Loader Boom Position Sensor Calibration' procedure.

  4. Replace if Necessary

If the calibration fails to complete or the sensor is reading out of the 0.25V–4.75V range, replace the Boom Position Sensor.

  5. Recalibrate

After installing a new sensor, you must run the calibration procedure again to clear the SCO 520529.13 code and restore Return-to-Position (RTP) functionality.
