520529.16

John Deere 520529.16 – Front Chassis Module (SCO): Loader Boom Position Sensor Value Too High

Issue description

This code is generated when the control software measures a loader boom angle that is above the programmed end stop. This indicates that the sensor's signal value/voltage is reading higher than the maximum allowed physical limit of the loader boom.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R

Check the cause

  1. Check for accompanying calibration codes like 520529.13 or 520529.14, which indicate that a Front Loader Boom Position Sensor Calibration is required or missing.

  2. Inspect the physical mounting of the boom position sensor. Ensure the sensor bracket hasn't bent, shifted, or become loose, which could cause the sensor to rotate past its normal mechanical end stop.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the boom position sensor and the Front Chassis Module (SCO) for a short to power condition, corrosion, or water intrusion.

  4. Use a diagnostic tool to monitor the sensor's output voltage while slowly raising and lowering the boom to see if the signal spikes erratically or stays stuck at a high voltage.

Repair steps

  1. Secure loader

Lower the front loader to the ground or secure the boom on approved safety stands to remove pressure from the hydraulic system.

  2. Disconnect power

Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  3. Disconnect sensor

Locate the loader boom position sensor on the loader frame/linkage and disconnect its electrical connector.

  4. Repair wiring or remove sensor

If the wiring is damaged, repair the harness. If the sensor itself is internally shorted or physically broken, unbolt the mounting hardware and remove the sensor.

  5. Install replacement sensor

Install the replacement Loader Boom Position Sensor and tighten the mounting hardware to spec.

  6. Reconnect harness

    Reconnect the electrical harness.

  7. Restore power

Reconnect the battery and power on the machine.

  8. Calibrate sensor

Perform a 'Front Loader Boom Position Sensor Calibration' using the tractor's CommandCenter display or the John Deere Service ADVISOR tool. The SCO module needs to learn the new sensor's minimum and maximum end-stop values to clear the 520529.16 code.
