520530.04

John Deere 520530.04 – Front Chassis Module (SCO): Loader Boom Position Sensor Signal Voltage Low

Issue description

The controller is receiving a signal voltage from the loader boom position sensor that is below the acceptable minimum threshold. This typically indicates a short to ground in the sensor wiring, an open circuit (disconnected/broken wire), or an internally failed sensor.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R

Check the cause

  1. Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness running along the loader boom to the Front Chassis Module (SCO) for pinch points, chafing, or severed wires.

  2. Connector Check: Disconnect the boom position sensor and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back terminals.

  3. Voltage Test: Verify that the sensor is receiving its standard 5V reference and a solid ground from the SCO module.

  4. Signal Test: Check the signal wire for a short to ground. If the wiring is intact and the reference voltage is present but the signal voltage remains stuck low, the sensor itself has failed.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Lower the loader boom completely to the ground to relieve hydraulic pressure and ensure safety. Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery.

  2. Removal

Locate the boom position sensor (typically mounted near the loader mast/pivot points where the leveling links are positioned). Disconnect the electrical harness.

  3. Dismount

Remove the mounting hardware/bracket securing the sensor and remove the faulty sensor.

  4. Installation

Install the new position sensor and secure the mounting hardware. Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the weather-tight seal clicks into place.

  5. Calibration

You must calibrate the new sensor. Use the tractor's CommandCenter display (via the RTP run page) or a John Deere Service ADVISOR tool to perform the boom position calibration so the SCO module learns the new sensor's zero and maximum limits.
