Issue description

Check the cause
Check for companion codes (such as 520543.04 - Vehicle CAN Bus Low Circuit Voltage Low). Multiple CAN codes usually point to a physical wiring harness issue rather than a failed module.
Cycle power by turning the key switch OFF, waiting for the system to power down completely, and turning it back ON to determine if the code is an active hard fault or a stored intermittent fault.
Using a multimeter, probe the CAN High and CAN Low pins at the diagnostic connector or the affected module. A healthy CAN High line should read approximately 2.5V to 2.7V. A reading near 12V confirms a short to battery power.
Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the CSM, AIC, or CCU. Look for pinch points, chafing against the cab frame, or melted insulation that could bridge the CAN+ wire to a 12V power wire.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes during testing.
Isolate the Short
Disconnect the harness connector from the module logging the code (e.g., the Cab Switch Module or Armrest Interface Control Unit).
Test the Harness
Reconnect the battery and turn the key ON (Engine OFF). Measure the voltage on the CAN High wire on the harness side. If the voltage is still 12V: The short to power is in the wiring harness. Trace the harness back toward the cab load center or main splice block, repair the shorted wires, and insulate them with heat-shrink tubing. If the voltage drops to normal (or 0V) when unplugged: The short is internal to the module's CAN transceiver. The module itself has failed.
Replace the Module (if applicable)
If the module is internally shorted, remove the mounting screws securing the CSM or AIC to the armrest/cab console, unplug the remaining connectors, and install the replacement module.
Clear Codes and Calibrate
Reconnect all components, power on the tractor, and use the CommandCenter display or John Deere Service ADVISOR to clear the stored 520542.03 code. Some replacement modules (like the AIC) may require a software calibration upon installation.
