John Deere 520870.02 – Multiple (ATC, CCU, CSC, OIC, PTF, HCC): Internal error when reading the internal module (EEPROM) / Configuration Data Fault
Issue description
The control software encountered an internal error when reading the internal module (EEPROM) during the end-of-line memory check. This indicates corrupted, invalid, or unreadable configuration data, commonly caused by an interrupted reprogramming event, a voltage drop during a memory write cycle, or a physical failure of the memory chip.

Check the cause
Perform a key cycle: Turn the ignition switch OFF, wait for the system to power down completely, and turn it back ON to clear temporary glitches
Inspect battery terminals and ground connections for acid buildup or dirt that could cause voltage drops during startup
Verify if the module is stuck in programming mode (often accompanied by code 000628.12) due to a recently failed software update
Repair steps
Reset to Factory Defaults
Access the CommandCenter display. For ATC or CCU configuration data faults, follow the on-screen solution to reset to factory defaults, then cycle the key.
Reprogram the EEPROM
Connect John Deere Service ADVISOR and attempt to re-flash/reprogram the affected module (ATC or CCU) with the correct and updated software payload.
Re-calibrate the System
If the flash is successful, perform the end-of-line calibration procedure for the specific module (e.g., HVAC actuator calibration for the ATC, or valve calibrations for the CCU).
Replace the Module
If Service ADVISOR cannot communicate with the module, the flash fails repeatedly, or the 520870.02 code returns immediately after a power cycle, the internal EEPROM chip is physically defective and the entire control unit must be replaced.
Parts you might need
(2)ATC Controller (Automatic Temperature Control Unit)
If prefix is ATC. Must be programmed with Service ADVISOR to match the machine's configuration before it will function.
CCU Controller (Chassis Control Unit)
If prefix is CCU. Must be programmed with Service ADVISOR to match the machine's configuration before it will function.
