520872.02

John Deere 520872.02 – PL1: Control Software Internal Fault

Issue description

The control software has detected a problem reading data from the internal module's EEPROM. The end-of-line memory check fails at start-up, which is typically caused by data corruption, a hardware malfunction, or invalid configuration data.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110M
  • 6120M
  • 6130M
  • 6145M
  • 6155M
  • 6175M
  • 6195M
  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R

Check the cause

  1. Cycle the tractor's ignition key off and back on to perform a system reset and clear temporary memory glitches

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors going to the PL1 Gear Shift Module for loose pins, corrosion, or damaged wires that could cause intermittent power drops

  3. Check the current software version on the PL1 module using John Deere Service Advisor to see if a newer, more stable update is available

Repair steps

  1. Reset the Module

Perform a hard reset of the system to attempt clearing the error.

  2. Reprogram / Update Software

Connect John Deere Service Advisor and re-flash/update the PL1 control software to the latest version to overwrite corrupted EEPROM data.

  3. Replace the Module

If the software update fails or the error immediately returns, the EEPROM chip inside the module has suffered a physical hardware failure and the PL1 Gear Shift Module must be replaced.

  4. Calibrate

If the module is replaced, perform the end-of-line calibration for the DirectDrive transmission using Service Advisor.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • PL1 Gear Shift Module (DirectDrive Transmission)

Ensure the replacement module is specifically designated for the DirectDrive transmission. Specific part numbers vary based on the exact tractor model and serial number (PIN).
