John Deere 520874.02 – SCO: Control software internal fault when reading the internal module (EEPROM)
Issue description
The control unit is experiencing an internal memory failure (EEPROM read/write error) or a software corruption issue. When this code is triggered, the control software's function becomes limited or entirely invalid, often disabling front chassis or SCV (Selective Control Valve) functions.

Check the cause
Reboot the control system by restarting the tractor to see if a simple power cycle resolves temporary internal software glitches.
Connect the John Deere Service Advisor tool (via Electronic Data Link - EDL) to verify the integrity of the control software.
Check for available software updates or technical releases for the SCO module.
Use the diagnostic tool to inspect EEPROM status and see if the module will accept a reflash.
Repair steps
Power cycle the tractor
Turn off the tractor, wait a few minutes, and restart it to see if the active code clears.
Perform software reflash
If the code persists, connect the John Deere Service Advisor. Attempt to reinstall or update the SCO module's software to repair the corrupted EEPROM data.
Replace SCO module
If the software reflash fails (indicating a hard failure of the internal EEPROM memory chip), the Front Chassis Module (SCO) must be physically replaced.
Reprogram new module
Install the new SCO module. Using the Service Advisor, copy the tractor's configurations and parameters to the new control unit.
Perform system calibrations
Perform necessary system calibrations tied to the Front Chassis Module, such as front axle suspension calibration, front loader boom/bucket position sensor calibration, and SCV spool valve settings.
Parts you might need
(1)Front Chassis Module (SCO) / Secondary Control Unit
Specific OEM part numbers vary based on tractor configuration and VIN. Must be ordered specifically for the John Deere 6R Series (2015-2021). The new module will be shipped "blank" or with base software and must be programmed by a dealer using John Deere Service Advisor upon installation.
