521156.12

John Deere 521156.12 – CRU: XM Satellite Radio Communication Fault

Issue description

The CRU control software is experiencing a communication error with the XM Satellite Radio Module, resulting in limited or no XM Satellite Radio functionality. This is typically caused by a disconnected or damaged satellite antenna, incorrect country code settings in the software, or a hardware mismatch.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R
  • 8225R
  • 8245R
  • 8270R
  • 8295R
  • 8320R
  • 8335R
  • 8345R
  • 8370R
  • 8400R
  • 9470RT
  • 9520RT
  • 9570RT
  • S670
  • CH570
  • CH670

Check the cause

  1. Check Radio Compatibility: Look at the radio faceplate for the (((XM))) logo. If this marking is not present, the radio unit does not support XM Satellite Radio.

  2. Verify Country Code Settings: Access the software settings and check that the country code is set to 'US' at address VTI 045. Incorrect regional settings will prevent proper communication.

  3. Inspect the XM Module Antenna: Ensure that the XM Satellite Radio Module antenna is properly connected, undamaged, and positioned correctly on the cab roof to receive satellite signals.

  4. Inspect Module and Connections: Examine the XM Satellite Radio Module (A65) and its connectors (A65X1) for any signs of physical damage, corrosion, or loose pins that could disrupt the CAN/communication bus.

Repair steps

  1. Verify Configuration

Enter the diagnostic menu and navigate to address VTI 045. Change the country code to US if it is currently set incorrectly.

  2. Physical Inspection & Reconnection

Access the CRU and XM module located in the cab roof liner. Disconnect the SiriusXM Satellite Radio Module Connector (A65X1) and the antenna feed. Clean the contacts and securely reconnect them.

  3. Component Replacement

If the wiring is intact and the settings are correct but the fault persists, replace the XM Satellite Radio Antenna. If the antenna is confirmed good, replace the XM Satellite Radio Module itself.

  4. Reset and Re-test

After making adjustments or replacing parts, clear the diagnostic trouble codes, reset the CRU control software, and test the radio system to ensure XM channels load and the error code does not return.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • XM Satellite Radio Module

OEM Component Reference: A65. Specific OEM part numbers vary heavily by exact machine serial number and cab trim level; consult the dealer parts catalog using the machine's PIN.

  • SiriusXM Satellite Radio Antenna

Generic replacement or OEM roof-mounted dielectric antenna (often utilizes a standard FAKRA connector).

  • SiriusXM Satellite Radio Module Connector / Pigtail

    OEM Component Reference: A65X1.
