John Deere 521164.02 – CSM (Cab Switch Module): HVAC Fan Speed Increase Button Fault
Issue description
The button used to turn up the blower motor/fan speed for the cab's heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system is malfunctioning. The system is detecting an abnormal state, which usually means the button is physically stuck in the depressed position, internally shorted, or experiencing a circuit error.

Check the cause
Perform a physical button check by pressing the HVAC Fan Speed Increase button a few times to see if you can manually unstick it.
Perform a power cycle by turning the ignition key switch OFF, waiting a few moments, and turning it back ON to reset the module.
Visually inspect the CommandArm console for signs of liquid damage or heavy debris around the HVAC control cluster.
Repair steps
Prep the Machine
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts while working on the cab modules.
Clean the Contacts
If the button feels physically sticky, attempt to clean around the edges of the button with a plastic-safe electronic contact cleaner.
Access the CSM
If cleaning fails, remove the retaining screws and plastic trim pieces on the CommandArm console to lift the control panel.
Disconnect Harnesses
Carefully unplug the wiring harnesses connected to the bottom of the CSM.
Replace the Module
Install a new or remanufactured Cab Switch Module, as individual buttons generally cannot be swapped out.
Reassembly and Calibration
Reconnect the wiring harnesses, reassemble the armrest, and reconnect the battery. Power on the tractor. Depending on the software version, a new CSM may require configuration or calibration using John Deere Service ADVISOR.
