John Deere 521192.14 – ECU or EIC: Immobilizer Control Device Fault
Issue description
Engine Shutdown Active. The immobilizer system fails to recognize the transponder chip in the key or loses communication with the control unit, causing the ECU to command an engine shutdown.

Check the cause
Verify the Key: Ensure the operator is using the correct immobilizer key with a transponder chip.
Reset Procedure: Insert a valid transponder key into the ignition and switch the ignition ON, but DO NOT START the engine. Wait at least 3 seconds for the system to recognize the key, then attempt to start the engine.
Power Cycle: Turn the ignition switch off and back on to see if the code clears.
Inspect Hardware: Check the immobilizer control console, the antenna ring around the ignition barrel, and the wiring harness for physical damage, loose connections, or corrosion.
Repair steps
Test system
If the reset procedure fails, test the system with a secondary programmed key (if available) to rule out a damaged transponder chip inside the primary key.
Disconnect battery
Disconnect the battery before servicing electronic components.
Inspect components
Access the steering column/front console to inspect the Immobilizer Control Unit and the antenna unit.
Check wiring
Check the CAN bus wiring and terminating resistors (such as the mini boot style CAN terminator) for proper resistance and continuity, as communication loss will trigger the fault.
Replace components
If the wiring is intact and the keys are verified good, replace the faulty Immobilizer Control Unit / Antenna.
Reprogram system
Important Note: Installing a new immobilizer control unit or replacing lost keys requires reprogramming by an authorized John Deere dealer using Service Advisor, otherwise, the new components will not be recognized and the engine will remain locked out.
