521401.19

John Deere 521401.19 – SCO (Secondary Control Option): Front Hitch Control Lever Fault Message Received

Issue description

The control module detects a failure, disagreement, or missing signal from the front hitch/SCV control lever switches or sensors. The system is receiving an invalid or conflicting position signal over the CAN bus, which prevents the safe operation of the front hitch or assigned SCV.

Check the cause

  1. Check for accompanying codes on the display, specifically AIC 521401.02 (Front Hitch Control Lever Switch/Sensor Conflict), which confirms the physical lever sensor is the root cause.

  2. Inspect the front hitch control lever on the CommandARM for physical damage, sticking, or debris preventing smooth movement.

  3. Check the wiring harness and connectors between the control lever, the AIC (Armrest module), and the SCO (Front Chassis module) for signs of wear, corrosion, or loose pins.

  4. Verify CAN bus communication between the AIC and SCO modules, as the SCO is reporting a faulty message received from the AIC.

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the tractor and disconnect battery power

Turn off the tractor and disconnect battery power to prevent electrical shorts during service.

  2. Remove the side panel of the CommandARM

Remove the side panel of the CommandARM to access the SCV and front hitch control lever assemblies.

  3. Inspect and clean the electrical connectors

Inspect and clean the electrical connectors at the affected front hitch control lever.

  4. Repair the harness or replace damaged connector pins

If wiring damage is found, repair the harness or replace the damaged connector pins.

  5. Replace the faulty front hitch control lever / SCV controller assembly

If the wiring is intact and the switch conflict code (AIC 521401.02) is present, the internal sensor of the lever has failed. Remove the mounting hardware and replace the faulty front hitch control lever / SCV controller assembly.

  6. Reassemble the CommandARM and reconnect battery power

Reassemble the CommandARM and reconnect battery power.

  7. Recalibrate the front hitch control lever

Use the tractor's CommandCenter display (or John Deere Service Advisor) to recalibrate the front hitch control lever. The system must learn the new sensor's minimum, maximum, and neutral voltage values.

  8. Clear fault codes and perform a functional test

Clear the SCO and AIC fault codes and perform a functional test of the front hitch to verify the repair.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • SCV Controller / Front Hitch Control Lever

    RE216996

SCV Controller, SCO/EHO version. Exact fitment varies heavily by specific tractor model and CommandARM configuration; always verify with the machine's serial number.

  • Front Hitch Lock Parts Kit

    AL165485

OEM lock parts kit for the front hitch draft links, which is often required to be serviced or secured when working on front hitch operational issues.
