John Deere 521401.31 – Secondary Control Option (SCO): Front Hitch Control Lever Command Missing
Issue description
The control unit is not receiving the expected command signal or feedback from the front hitch control lever (or the corresponding Selective Control Valve lever) located on the CommandARM. The system detects a missing signal, which prevents the operator from controlling the front hitch or the assigned SCV via that specific lever.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the front hitch control lever on the CommandARM for signs of wear, corrosion, pinched wires, or loose connections.
Check the relevant hydraulic/control fuses in the cab fuse panel (e.g., fuse F29).
Test the front hitch control lever switch individually using a multimeter or John Deere Service ADVISOR to verify if it is outputting the correct voltage sweep/signal when moved.
Check for conflicting AIC (Armrest Interface Control) codes, such as AIC 521401.02, which would further isolate the issue to the lever's internal detent switch or sensor.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.
Access the CommandARM
Carefully remove the trim panels on the CommandARM console to access the SCV and front hitch control levers.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed damaged wiring or corroded connector pins, repair the wiring harness or replace the connector pigtail.
Replace the Lever
If the wiring is intact but the lever failed the sensor test, disconnect the electrical harness from the faulty front hitch control lever and unbolt the lever assembly from the console. Install the new lever and reconnect the harness.
Reassembly
Reinstall the CommandARM trim panels.
Recalibration
Reconnect the battery. Use John Deere Service ADVISOR or the tractor's CommandCenter display to recalibrate the SCV/Front Hitch control levers so the SCO module learns the new lever's neutral, extend, and retract positions.
Clear Codes and Test
Clear the 521401.31 fault code and operate the front hitch to ensure normal functionality.
Parts you might need
