John Deere 521404.19 – SCO: Incorrect CAN Bus Message, Information from AIC Control Software

Issue description

The AIC (Armrest Interface Control) software cannot determine and provide the position value of the E-SCV XI (Electronic Selective Control Valve 11) control lever/switch on the CAN bus network. Because the actual position is unknown, a replacement value is transmitted over the network, which triggers this diagnostic trouble code. The affected selective control valve (E-SCV XI) will have limited or no functionality.

Check the cause

  1. Check the AIC module for active priority codes; if present, they take priority and should be diagnosed first

  2. Inspect all CAN Bus wiring between the Armrest (AIC) and the Front Chassis Module (SCO) for signs of damage, loose connections, or corrosion

  3. Test the physical E-SCV XI control lever/switch on the armrest for physical damage, sticking, or open circuits

  4. Use John Deere Service ADVISOR to monitor CAN Bus traffic and verify if the AIC is successfully transmitting data to the SCO

Repair steps

  1. Connect Diagnostic Tool

    Hook up John Deere Service ADVISOR and pull all active codes from both the SCO and AIC modules.

  2. Inspect Armrest Harness

    Lift or open the armrest console to access the wiring harness for the SCV fingertip paddles/switches. Disconnect the E-SCV XI switch and inspect the pins for fretting, corrosion, or pushed-back terminals.

  3. Test the Switch

    Check the resistance/continuity of the E-SCV XI switch. If the switch has an internal open circuit or short, it will fail to send a valid position signal to the AIC.

  4. Repair or Replace

    If the wiring harness is damaged, repair the broken CAN lines or replace the affected harness section. If the switch fails testing, replace the E-SCV XI control lever assembly.

  5. Software Update

    If the wiring and switch are mechanically sound, check for software updates for both the AIC and SCO modules, as intermittent CAN bus drops can sometimes be resolved via software patches.

  6. Clear and Calibrate

    Clear the fault codes. You may need to perform an SCV lever calibration procedure via the tractor's display or Service ADVISOR to ensure the new switch limits are learned.
