521469.14

John Deere 521469.14 – SCO / SCC: SCV XV Actuator Not Receiving SCO Message

Issue description

The electronic actuator for Selective Control Valve 15 (XV) has lost communication and is no longer receiving command messages over the CAN bus network.

Check the cause

  1. Cycle Power: Turn the tractor off and cycle the key switch to see if the communication fault is a temporary glitch that resets.

  2. Check for Related Codes: Look for other voltage or temperature codes related to SCV XV (such as 521471.18 for low voltage/temperature or 521473.00 for high voltage) which would indicate a broader electrical supply issue rather than a pure CAN failure.

  3. Inspect Wiring and Connectors: Check the CAN bus wiring harness between the SCO/SCC controller and the SCV XV actuator. Look for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or corrosion inside the actuator's electrical connector.

  4. Verify Power and Ground: Ensure the SCV XV actuator is receiving proper unswitched power, switched power, and ground. If the actuator has no power, it cannot communicate on the CAN bus.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Shut off the engine, lower all implements to the ground, and relieve hydraulic pressure in the system.

  2. Access the SCV Stack

Locate the rear SCV stack and identify the valve slice corresponding to SCV XV (15).

  3. Harness Repair

If the diagnostic checks revealed damaged wiring or a corroded connector at the actuator, repair the wiring harness or replace the connector pigtail.

  4. Replace the Actuator

If the wiring, power, and ground are all intact but the actuator still will not communicate, the actuator's internal CAN transceiver has likely failed. Remove the retaining hardware securing the electronic actuator to the mechanical SCV valve body and install a new actuator.

  5. Software Configuration

When a new SCV actuator is installed, it may default to a generic address (e.g., SV0). You will likely need to use John Deere Service ADVISOR or the CommandCenter display to reconfigure the SCC/SCO controller so it recognizes the new actuator and assigns it the correct SCV XV address.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • E-SCV Actuator / Selective Control Valve Actuator

Exact part numbers depend heavily on the specific 8R model year and whether the actuator is sold separately or as part of a valve assembly. Provide your tractor's exact PIN to a John Deere dealer.

  • E-SCV Valve without Smart Actuator

    AL233582
  • M-SCV Actuator and Control Parts Attachment

    BL17491
