John Deere 521475.19 – HCC: Rear Hitch Load Depth Encoder Increase Fault

Issue description

Indicates a physical or electrical fault associated with the sensor (encoder) that measures the load depth/position of the rear hitch when an increase command is registered.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R
  • 9470RT
  • 9520RT
  • 9570RT
  • 8245R
  • 8400R

Check the cause

  1. Check for related codes (HCC 521475.09 or HCC 521475.31) to pinpoint the exact failure mode (e.g., severed connection vs. corrupted data).

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connector leading to the rear hitch load depth encoder/position sensor for corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins.

  3. Verify the mechanical linkage connecting the hitch mechanism to the rotary encoder. Ensure the linkage is not bent, disconnected, or jammed, which prevents the sensor from reading the increase movement properly.

Repair steps

  1. Lower the rear hitch

Lower the rear hitch completely to the ground to relieve all hydraulic pressure and mechanical tension.

  2. Disconnect battery

Key off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent damage to the HCC module.

  3. Locate the sensor

Locate the Rear Hitch Load Depth Encoder (Position/Draft Sensor) at the rear rockshaft/hitch assembly.

  4. Disconnect electrical harness

Disconnect the electrical harness from the sensor.

  5. Detach sensor

Remove the retaining hardware and detach the sensor from its mechanical linkage.

  6. Install new sensor

Install the new encoder/sensor, ensuring the linkage is properly aligned with the sensor's rotational axis.

  7. Reconnect harness and battery

Reconnect the electrical harness and restore battery power.

  8. Perform rear hitch calibration

A rear hitch calibration must be performed using the John Deere CommandCenter display or Service ADVISOR tool so the HCC can learn the minimum and maximum voltage values of the new encoder.
