521480.02

John Deere 521480.02 – AIC (Armrest Interface Control Unit): Armrest Rear Hitch Setup Controls Module Circuit Fault

Issue description

A Local Interconnect Network (LIN) data fault originating from the rear hitch setup controls module. There is a data transfer problem between the Armrest Interface Control (AIC) software and the LIN Bus module located at position 'S'. Because the system cannot communicate with the dials that control the rate of drop, depth, and lift upper limit, the control unit shifts to a limited function mode to prevent incorrect operation of the rear hitch.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the A065 Armrest Rear Hitch Setup Controls Module (Position S) for any signs of physical damage, liquid intrusion, or operational issues.

  2. Ensure that all connections related to the LIN Bus module and the AIC are secure and intact. Check for bent pins, corrosion, or loose grounds.

  3. Utilize John Deere Service Advisor or a compatible diagnostic tool to run the 'AIC—Armrest Rear Hitch Setup Controls Module Circuit Test' to analyze the LIN Bus module's ability to send and receive data accurately.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

  2. Access the CommandARM™

Carefully remove the necessary trim panels on the operator's armrest to access the internal LIN Bus modules.

  3. Wiring Repair

If the diagnostic checks revealed damaged, chafed, or loose wiring between the A065 module and the AIC, repair or replace the affected sections of the wiring harness.

  4. Module Replacement

If the wiring and connectors are intact but communication is still failing, the A065 Armrest Rear Hitch Setup Controls Module itself is likely faulty. Remove the defective module and install the replacement unit.

  5. System Reset and Testing

Reconnect the battery and power on the tractor. Clear the stored 521480.02 fault code using a diagnostic tool. Test the rear hitch dials (rate of drop, depth, lift upper limit) to ensure they are fully operational and that the communication error does not return.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Armrest Rear Hitch Setup Controls Module (Component A065)

Specific part number varies by exact machine serial number/year; refer to John Deere Parts Catalog for your specific VIN.

  • Armrest Interface Control Unit (AIC) (Component A012)

Only replace if the AIC itself is proven to be the source of the LIN bus failure after the A065 module and wiring have been ruled out.
