Check the cause
Inspect the left front outer hood flood light for physical damage, cracked lenses, or water intrusion.
Disconnect the left front outer hood flood light and inspect the connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or bent terminals.
Test the wiring harness between the VLC module and the light using a multimeter to check for a short to power (voltage present when switch is off).
Swap the left outer hood flood light with the right one; if the fault code changes to the right side (VLC 521550.03), the light assembly is internally shorted.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during repair.
Repair Wiring
If a short to power was found in the wiring harness during diagnostics, locate the chafed or melted section of the wire. Splice and heat-shrink the wire, or replace that section of the harness.
Replace the Light Assembly
If the light itself is internally shorted, remove the mounting hardware securing the left outer hood flood light. Disconnect the electrical pigtail, mount the new light assembly, and plug it in.
Replace the VLC Module
If the wiring and the light assembly both test perfectly, the VLC module may have an internal hardware failure. Replacing the VLC requires unbolting the module, swapping the harness connectors, and having a John Deere dealer program the new module to the tractor's CAN bus system.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, clear the stored fault codes via the cab display, and turn on the work lights to verify the repair.
