John Deere 521533.06 – VLC: Front Outer Hood Flood Lights Left Circuit Current High

The control module has detected that the electrical current (amps) in the left front outer hood flood light circuit exceeds the maximum allowed rating. This typically indicates a short circuit to ground, a faulty bulb drawing excessive current, or a wiring harness issue.

   Cycle power by turning the ignition key switch off and back on to see if the code is a temporary glitch that clears upon a system reset.

   Inspect the left front outer hood flood light bulb or LED assembly. A failing halogen bulb or internally shorted LED assembly can draw excessive current.

   Examine the wiring harness starting from the left outer hood light back to the VLC module. Look for pinched wires, chafed insulation, or exposed copper shorting to the tractor's chassis (earth).

   Measure the current draw on the left outer hood light circuit using a digital multimeter with an amp clamp when turned on. Compare this to the fuse rating to confirm the over-amperage condition.

   Inspect the pins and connectors at the Vehicle Load Center (VLC) for corrosion, moisture, or melting.

   Disconnect the Load

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the wiring harness connector directly at the left front outer hood flood light.

   Test for Shorts

   Turn the tractor and work lights back on. If the fault code changes to a "Current Low" or "Open Circuit" code (such as 521533.05), the wiring is good, and the fault is isolated to the light bulb/assembly itself. Replace the bulb or light assembly. If the 521533.06 (Current High) code remains active while the light is unplugged, there is a short to ground in the wiring harness between the light connector and the VLC.

   Repair Wiring

   Trace the harness along the hood hinge and chassis routing points (common areas for chafing). Repair any damaged wires using weather-sealed heat shrink connectors.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the light assembly, turn the key switch on, and verify that the work lights function properly and the VLC 521533.06 code moves to a "stored" or "inactive" state.
